Marshfield girls hockey falls to first-place Waupaca

MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield girls hockey team managed only 10 shots on goal and dropped a Great Northern Conference matchup to Waupaca 4-1 on Friday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice & Recreation Arena.
Waupaca scored once in the first period and twice in the second to build a 3-0 lead.
The Comets added another goal before Marshfield finally got on the scoreboard when Kessa Schreiner scored on an assist from Hailey Draxler with 57 seconds to go.
Waupaca (12-1, 4-0 Great Northern Conference) held a 43-10 advantage in shots on goal. Mandy Tomlinson had two goals and an assist for the Comets.
Alexis Straughan had 39 saves for Marshfield (3-6, 2-3 GNC).
Marshfield’s next game is Jan. 9 at home against Medford.
