Spencer softball shut out by Chequamegon in season-opener

SPENCER — Chequamegon’s Megan Mader held Spencer to just three hits in a 3-0 shutout victory over the Rockets in the two teams’ season-opener in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at Spencer High School.
Chequamegon scored single runs in the first, fifth, and seventh against Spencer pitchers Macie Weber and Ellayna Lyon to pull out the win.
Brooke Kettleborough, Mandie Schultz, and Lindsey Vaughan each had hits for Spencer, which accounted for its only baserunners.
Mader struck out nine and did not walk a batter to earn the victory. Chequamegon had no errors in the field.
Emilia Ernest had a home run for the Screaming Eagles.
Spencer hosts Marshfield in a nonconference game on April 7.
