MARSHFIELD — Construction on The Adler Family Kodiak Bear Exhibit is humming along with no significant delays or unforeseen surprises, according to Marshfield Parks and Recreation Director Justin Casperson. The projected timeline for completion of the project is Oct. 15 this year.
“The project is going very well. We haven’t had any hiccups in the project or any outstanding expenditures that we weren’t aware of, so things are going really well,” Casperson said.
Altmann Construction Company Inc. of Wisconsin Rapids is constructing the exhibit.
Casperson said the two Kodiak bears who will occupy the exhibit are in good health at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage, Alaska. The bears that will be coming to Marshfield are two of three Kodiaks that were rescued on Alaska’s Kodiak Island. They were discovered by members of a hunting party after they heard reports that the cubs’ mother had been illegally shot.
The new bear exhibit will include a 4,600-square-foot, glass-enclosed area and a nearly one-acre “Bear Woods” with a 65-foot bridge spanning the two habitats.
