Marshfield boys soccer finishes regular season with WVC win over Wausau East
Tigers head into playoffs unbeaten in last four games

MARSHFIELD — Luke McCann scored in the 72nd minute to lift the Marshfield boys soccer team to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wausau East in its regular-season finale on Thursday at Griese Park.
The Tigers end the regular season with a 9-6-3 record and an 8-3-1 mark in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Marshfield went 7-1-1 over its final nine conference games.
After a scoreless first half, East struck first when Charlie Keefe scored on a penalty kick 19:47 into the second half.
The Tigers tied the game three minutes later on an East own goal after a deflected shot by McCann. Then McCann scored on an assist from Klaus Friedli at the 71:11 mark to give them the lead.
Mathias Holm had nine saves in goal for Marshfield.
The Tigers will await the WIAA playoff pairings, which will be announced in the next few days.
