MADISON — The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association announced its all-state, all-region, and academic all-state teams on Monday.
Spencer/Columbus Catholic senior Calvin Lenz was the lone local player picked to the WFCA all-state team as he earned honorable mention accolades at defensive back.
A number of players were picked to the North Central, Northwest, and Northeast all-region teams.
Spencer/Columbus had three selections — senior Hunter Hildebrandt at inside linebacker, Lenz at defensive back, and junior Max Johnson at offensive line — on the North Central team.
Stratford senior Dylan Peterson was an all-Northwest region selection at offensive line, and Marshfield senior Nick Hoheisel was picked at running back on the all-Northeast region team.
Spencer/Columbus coach Jason Gorst was named the North Central Region District 5 Coach of the Year.
Amherst quarterback Garrett Groshek was picked as the WFCA State Offensive Player of the Year, Menomonie linebacker Mason Stokke was picked as the WFCA State Defensive Player of the Year, and Rice Lake’s Jim Pederson was named the WFCA State Assistant Coach of the Year.
Auburndale and Stratford earned WFCA Team Academic All-State Awards, two of 26 schools statewide to earn the honor. Teams must have a minimum of five seniors that have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.33 or higher. Auburndale had eight seniors with a 3.489 average GPA, and Stratford had 11 seniors with an average GPA of 3.367.
A number of area athletes also earned WFCA Individual Academic All-State honors, which are given to seniors who lettered in football this season and have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Auburndale’s Kaleb Bolder, Dylan Peplinski, and Noah Vobora; Marshfield’s Andrew Gilkerson, Jared Heeg, Isaac Huettl, Josh Lang, and Aaron Peters; and Stratford’s Nick Stoflet and Sam Wenzel earned the distinction.
