SPARTA — Ryan Krueger netted a hat trick in the first period, and the Marshfield boys hockey team went on to an 8-5 win over Sparta in a nonconference match Tuesday night at the Sparta Ice Arena.
Krueger scored 1:02 into the game and scored two more times in the first period to help the Tigers build a 4-1 lead.
Sparta closed to within 6-5 in the third after two of Domenic Leis’ three goals and another from Jack Steinhoff, but Collin Barth and Blaine Neinast each scored late to give the Tigers some cushion.
Neinast also had a hat trick for Marshfield (3-7-1), and Tyler Spaeth added a goal in the win.
Logan Cherney had 20 saves in goal for the Tigers.
Marshfield’s next game is Jan. 7 at D.C. Everest.
