Annual Culture & Agriculture exhibit opening at New Visions Gallery
For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — New Visions Gallery is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the immensely popular annual Culture & Agriculture exhibit. An opening reception will be held June 26 from 3-5 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Complimentary refreshments will be provided as well as live music by local musician Lor Chang.
The exhibit opens for regular gallery hours on June 27 and runs through Sept. 2. Thirty-two artists from six states are represented among the pieces chosen for the exhibit by the independent juror Judy Clowes, director of the James Watrous Gallery in Madison.
“I am honored to serve as juror for the 30th annual Culture & Agriculture exhibition. The sympathy and appreciation for rural landscapes and communities evinced by the work in this show is deeply moving. It’s an important reminder that art matters everywhere, from major urban centers to small cities, towns, and remote farmsteads. In the face of economic upheaval and serious challenges to small-scale farming, these artists’ expressions of rural life show us just what we stand to lose. Their work urges us to cherish and protect the land and the people that sustain our lives,” Clowes said.
School and community group tours are available for this exhibit, made possible in part through a generous grant from the Marshfield Area Community Foundation. Interested parties should contact New Visions Gallery to schedule a date and time.
Culture & Agriculture can be viewed Monday–Friday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at New Visions Gallery, located in the main lobby of Marshfield Clinic, 1000 N. Oak Ave. in Marshfield.
