Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball blows out Merrill
Blue Devils pound out 18 hits, win fifth-straight game

MARSHFIELD — Jack Donahue and Mitch Susa hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning to help push the Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team to a 14-3 victory over Merrill in Wisconsin Valley Legion League action Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.
After Merrill plated a run in the top of the first, Donahue cracked a two-run homer, and on the next pitch Susa launched one over the left-field fence to put the Blue Devils up 3-1.
Marshfield added single runs in the second and third innings, scored twice in the fourth and sixth, and had a five-run fifth in the victory that ended after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.
Jacob Neve earned the win, giving up five hits and striking out four in four innings. Trevor Schwecke, Donahue, and Jason Kurth each tossed an inning of relief to complete the victory.
Donahue finished with six RBIs and scored three times, Susa had four hits and two RBIs, and Nate McDonald was 3-for-4 and scored three runs for Marshfield, which is now 13-3 overall and 4-1 in the WVLL after winning its fifth game in a row.
Bobby Pilz, Jared Klein, Hunter Luepke, and Schwecke each added two hits for the Blue Devils.
Marshfield plays at Stevens Point on Wednesday night.
