MARSHFIELD — An annual event, the Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Show is an antique tractor show and community picnic aimed at offsetting the costs students in Auburndale and Marshfield incur for taking tractor safety classes. This year’s show will be held July 23 at Anderton Park in the town of Sherry, about 19 miles southeast of Marshfield.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. with a pork, sauerkraut, and dumpling dinner; raffles; a parade; and many more activities.
Students are also provided with ear muffs and safety glasses as a result of the fundraiser.
On June 10, 24 students completed the Auburndale Tractor Safety Class. Included in this number were out-of-district students from the Junction City-Stevens Point area, Stratford, and Wisconsin Rapids.
The Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Club also recently awarded scholarships to Auburndale, Marshfield, Pittsville, and Wisconsin Rapids high school seniors pursuing agriculture-related careers. The club donates time and money to numerous causes throughout central Wisconsin.
“Every kid should have the opportunity to take the tractor safety classes. It teaches them safety early on they can not only apply on the farm but also in life in general, such as mowing the lawn and driving a car,” said club President Fritz Miller.
“Teaching kids the importance of safety early on is something they will carry with them for a lifetime,” added Penny Shanks, secretary and treasurer of the Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Club.
To donate to the Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Club, make checks payable to and mail them to “Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Club, Inc.,” 7988 County Road HH, Arpin, WI 54410.
