Dr. Raymond E. Burrill, 1935-2016
Dr. Raymond E. Burrill, 81, of Marshfield, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sept. 2, 2016.
He will be dearly missed by Beverly (nee: Reeder) Burrill, who was his loving wife of 59 years; his six children, Mary Beth (Carlos) Espinoza of Miami, FL, Raymond J. (Jackie) Burrill of Marshfield, WI, Tammy (Brett Bachhuber) Schlagenhaft of Marshfield, WI, Lisa (Todd) Craft of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill of Washington, DC and Julia (Peter) Taddy of Pine Island, MN. His grandchildren, Eric, Nathan, Ben, Emilie, Jenna, Molly, Megan, Elise, Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, Samuel, Ethan, Jack and Sawyer; his three great grandchildren Preston, Daniel Joseph and Lincoln. He was preceded by his parents and his beloved daughter, Bonnie Jo.
Dr. Burrill loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed wood carving, photography, hunting, fishing, the Green Bay Packers and travelling. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was highly regarded by his patients. He and his wife Beverly had the blessing of travelling to many places throughout the world including Rome where he had the honor of attending private Mass with Saint Pope John Paul II.
Born on July 3, 1935 in Canton, Ohio, Dr. Burrill was the only child of the late Donald and Isabel (nee: Rose) Burrill. He grew up in Canton, Ohio graduating from Lehman High School and Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio. He later earned his medical degree from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois. After serving in the United Airforce in Minot ND, Dr. Burrill was recruited by the Marshfield Clinic in 1967. As the 75th physician of the Marshfield Clinic, Dr. Burrill built up the Culture of Life by delivering some 7,000 babies throughout his practice. During his 30-year career with the Clinic he was instrumental in helping to establish the Obstetrics High Risk Program. He was a member of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the American Medical Association.
A faithful Roman Catholic, Dr. Burrill was a proud member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. He was a Knight of Columbus, Fr. John Eisen Council #1799. Dr. Burrill’s family is most grateful to Cardinal Burke and Bishop Callahan for their visits as well as the many priests and chaplains who ministered to him including Fr. Eric Berns & Fr. Sam Martin. The family is also most grateful to Marshfield Senior Services, Stoney River, Wells Nature View and Hospice Care who ministered to him throughout his journey. In a particular way, our family would like to personally thank Dr. Erickson, Dr. McNealy, Dr. Okon and Dr. Mesa for their medical expertise and concern.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home, 300 South Oak Avenue Marshfield, WI with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, September 7, from 10:00 am until service time at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by his son, Msgr. Jeffrey D. Burrill, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with the interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
