An evening to celebrate downtown
For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — Summer is coming to a close as downtown businesses and Main Street Marshfield will celebrate their final Third Thursday of the year on Sept. 15. For this event Main Street Marshfield will be throwing a block party on East Fifth Street in conjunction with Hardacre Park.
The block party will go from 6-9 p.m. and consist of a beer garden, food, and live music by local band Elated Sun.
It is often difficult for people who work until 5 p.m. to get downtown to shop, but during Third Thursdays, the participating businesses are open until 7 p.m. Carol Knauf, owner of Rae Baxter’s Fashions, has participated in the event for two years and has committed to stay open every Thursday until 7 p.m. during the summer months.
“Third Thursdays have opened up an evening for the working girl to come and shop, and the working girl has taken advantage of that. It has been very good for us, and we hope to eventually continue this into the fall and make it a year around event,” Knauf said.
For Third Thursdays — in addition to store promotions — Main Street Marshfield plans entertainment throughout downtown, including a free caricature artist, local musicians, a cooking demonstration, and farmers market.
“Third Thursdays started as a way to bring more awareness to our downtown shops, restaurants. As a bonus, the retail event has made downtown a gathering place for the community to come together, spend time, and socialize,” said Angie Eloranta, Main Street Marshfield executive director.
