MARSHFIELD — During renovations of the Stratford High School/Middle School locker rooms, contractors hit a snag while working on the showers, prompting officials to close off the area.
“On Friday, (Sept. 16), we had some structural engineers that were underneath our building, particularly in the locker room areas, and they found some damage to the metal joists underneath the shower areas of the locker rooms,” said Stratford School Superintendent Scott Winch. “It is significant enough that they are recommending that we not use those areas until further notice and some tests can be done.
“We have made arrangements to use the elementary showers after phys. ed. or after athletics, and those rooms will be available. The coaches and teachers are aware of the situation, and we will do the best to accommodate anyone who needs to take a shower, but for now those areas, until we get some tests back, will not be used in the interest of the students’ safety.”
Miron Construction and structural engineers are continuing to look into the issue.
“This is more of a precautionary thing right now,” said Winch. “We hope to come up with something by the end of the week.”
