MARSHFIELD — In an ongoing program hosted by the art department at the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County, the work of artist Kristie Cecil will be on exhibit in Fine Arts Gallery 450 through Dec. 16.
Cecil’s paintings are created through the use of oils and gouache — opaque watercolor — and highlight the beauty found in the Wisconsin landscape.
“My work draws from an early love of nature and a desire to find the extraordinary in everyday places,” said Cecil. “What distinguishes my work is an ability to capture the ‘sense of place’ as particular with an emotional subtlety that resonates.
“I have traveled the many back roads of our area to create these paintings.”
Cecil was born and raised in southern West Virginia and attended college to receive an education as an artist and educator.
Her exhibit features paintings that mirror places in and around the Stevens Point area and is entitled “A Sense of Place.”
The show is a part of the university’s Visual Art Series, a program designed to bring accomplished artists to the campus for exhibitions, public lectures, demonstrations, and workshops.
The Fine Arts Gallery is located in Gallery 450 of the Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building on the UW-Marshfield/Wood County campus.
