Ten years ago
Five finalists were being considered by the Marshfield Police and Fire Commission to replace former Fire Chief Gregg Cleveland, who resigned. The five vying for the open position included Daniel Mayer of Franklin; Phillip Schumer of Chatham, Illinois; Craig Bryant of Cloverdale, Virginia; Steven Meng of Arvada, Colorado; and Steven Simon of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Twenty-five years ago
Long-time Marshfield resident Emma Swenson celebrated her 100th birthday Feb. 15 at the Zion United Methodist Church. Swenson was born in Bonfield, Illinois, and moved as a child to Marshfield in 1901.
Fifty years ago
Dr. Paul Yambert, professor of conservation at the Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point, was a visiting scientist at Columbus Catholic High School this week. Alan Hart, Mary Folz, Gary Finamore, and Janet Schmidt were among the sophomores taking part in the discussions.
Seventy-five years ago
The annual Court of Honor and Scout Rally, along with the American Legion Bean Feed, were held at the Elks Hall. Leo Sigl, a member of St. John’s Boy Scout Troop 85, was honored by Commissioner Donald Schmelter in being presented with his Eagle Scout award.
