Step back in time: April 9-15 in Hub City history

Ten years ago
Following achievements in district forensic competitions, several Marshfield High School students competed at the State Forensic meet on at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Representing Marshfield at the state contest were Adria Faczewski, Andrea Schmidt, Jackie Heeg, Elizabeth Barlow, Jennifer Heeg, Judy Dickinson, Kyle Johnson, Michelle Heeg, Nathaniel Brandner, and Neil Sharma.
Twenty-five years ago
Tuesday night Marvin Duerr won a rematch in the mayoral race and would take over as mayor of Marshfield, holding that post for the following two years. In a campaign that focused heavily on the Near East Boulevard proposal, Duerr won the election over Mayor David Koepke, who had filled the mayor’s seat for three terms.
Fifty years ago
The Casa Loma Supper Club was the site where five area veterans held their 25th anniversary dinner as members of the Bataan Death March. The veterans included Robert Ryan of Wisconsin Rapids, Floyd Dotter of Pittsville, Stanley Sommers of Marshfield, Clinton Guelzow of Wisconsin Rapids, and Peter Karaliunas of Blenker.
Seventy-five years ago
The John Haumschild family had the habit to save pennies. The habit has paid off when Mrs. Haumschild took 2,815 pennies into the Milladore Post Office to put toward purchasing war bonds for her and her daughter.
