MARSHFIELD — Alderman Ed Wagner won the next term as president of the Marshfield Common Council by the toss of a coin.
The decision was made during the April 18 organizational meeting of the common council. A vote to determine the next council president resulted in a 4-4 tie — with two council members missing — between Wagner and previous council president Gordon Earll. The tie was then broken by the flip of a coin, ending in Wagner’s favor.
In other action that evening, Alderpersons Earll, Tom Witzel, Rebecca Spiros, and Pete Hendler were sworn in for new terms on the council following successful runs in the April 4 elections. Nick Poeschel was absent and was sworn in independently. Poeschel is replacing Alanna Feddick as Marshfield’s District 2 alderperson.
