Fundraising concert being held for Loyal’s House of Mercy
For Hub City Times
NEILLSVILLE — The Neillsville United Church of Christ is sponsoring the Lamplight Concert to benefit the House of Mercy located in Loyal. The concert will take place at the Clark Cultural Art Center on May 13 at 2 p.m. Kate Jennings, vocal, and Judith Perman, piano, will be the featured performers. A free-will offering will be taken, and refreshments will be served.
The House of Mercy embraces and recognizes that all people have the basic human right to safe, affordable housing. Studies have shown that until families have their basic needs for food and shelter met, they do not have the emotional resources to address the other issues in their lives. There is a waiting list of families who seek such assistance in Clark County.
Purchased on June 30, 2016, the House of Mercy facility includes three apartments. With future funding, the hope is that the building will also house an office and three emergency housing rooms.
The House of Mercy brings to its residents all of the professional services of Catholic Charities and collaborating Clark County social services, the support of church volunteers, and the assistance of people of goodwill.
Residents’ needs are assessed, and individualized growth plans are developed. Once a family has the skills and resources to live independently, it is assisted in finding permanent housing and may continue to participate in case management.
At the present time the House of Mercy is full. It houses three families with children.
In the last two months, eight additional families have approached coordinator Judy Morrow in seeking a place to live. They did not enter the House of Mercy either because they did not fit the criteria or they did not want or were unable to live by the rules of the house, but all were helped with rent or finding another place to live. Many others have come for furniture, food, gas, or rent assistance.
