MARSHFIELD — During the Marshfield Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB) annual Tourism Banquet held May 11, CVB Director Matt McLean stated that Marshfield tourism was a contributor to a 3.86 percent increase in Wood County visitor spending in 2016.
McLean said, “$12.3 billion is the direct visitor spending in Wisconsin, and our portion in Wood County is $91.4 million, so actually we have a 3.86 percent increase over last year, which is higher than the state average.”
McLean said that $12 million in state and local taxes were generated through traveler spending in Wood County.
“That actually also means that’s $650 less out of our pockets of the people living here in Marshfield, so really the visitor taxes that come in through our hotels help cut down the taxes just out of our pockets. So you have an extra $650 in your pocket for all of the visitors coming to town for all of the fun events and everything we do. That really adds up,” he said.
The Marshfield Convention and Visitors Bureau is currently celebrating 25 years of service to the city of Marshfield.
