MARSHFIELD — Shirley’s House of Hope, a Christian domestic violence shelter in Marshfield, recently held its 2017 Striking Out Domestic Violence – Building Hope bowling fundraiser. Twenty-three teams competed for prizes based on donations they received from family and friends for bowling in the annual event at Rose Bowl Lanes on April 30.
More than $38,500 was raised by the bowlers and lane sponsorships. Katie Forst won the grand prize Wisconsin Dells Wilderness Resort package: a two-night stay for six.
Funds from the event are used to provide basic services such as emergency shelter, a healing program, and transitional housing. Shirley’s House of Hope receives no government funding, and 90 percent of all donations go toward direct services. Over 60 women and children are provided shelter each year.
