MILWAUKEE — Marshfield High School graduates Daulton Varsho and Trevor Schwecke, both members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team, earned second-team all-Horizon League honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Varsho, a first-team selection and the Horizon Player of the Year last season, was a second-team pick at catcher. The 2014 Marshfield grad is hitting .366 (71-for-194) with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs, 47 runs scored, 11 doubles, six triples, and a .655 slugging percentage, all team-highs. The junior also has 10 stolen bases.
Schwecke, a 2016 Marshfield alum, was a second-team selection at shortstop and was named to the all-freshman team as well. Schwecke is batting .320 (33-for-103) with nine doubles, 13 RBIs, and 19 runs scored for the Panthers.
Milwaukee (22-31) plays Northern Kentucky in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament at Illinois-Chicago at 4 p.m. Wednesday. If Milwaukee wins, it would enter the double-elimination portion of the tournament and face No. 1 seed Illinois-Chicago on Thursady.
The tournament concludes Saturday with the winner guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Division I Tournament field.
