MARSHFIELD — Marshfield and Stratford are among nearly three dozen communities receiving money from the state to remove lead service lines that supply water to homes, schools, and day care centers.
Gov. Scott Walker announced the state grants on June 28, saying the state is providing $13.8 million to 35 communities for assistance in removing lead service lines. Those lines extend from the main street pipes onto private property.
The city of Marshfield was among the municipalities that completed a financial assistance agreement with the state. The city will use $300,000 to replace an estimated 150 lead service lines that connect homes to a water main. Mosinee and Wisconsin Rapids are also getting $300,000 grants. Stratford will receive $140,750 in assistance.
