SARATOGA — A Marshfield man has died after suffering serious injuries in a car accident on Saturday.

According to a news release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:58 a.m. on Aug. 5, authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash in the area of State Highway 13 near Evergreen Avenue in the town of Saratoga. Investigators would find that a southbound vehicle crossed over the center line, striking a northbound vehicle, which injured both drivers.

The northbound driver, identified as 21-year-old Marshfield native Tyler Manthe, was airlifted to the Marshfield Medical Center with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead at 11:20 a.m. Manthe was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The southbound driver, identified as 23-year-old Nekoosa native Taylor Owczynsky, required extraction equipment to be removed from her vehicle. She was taken to Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, and her condition was unknown at the time of the report.

The accident closed State Highway 13 for a period of time. While this incident remains under investigation, alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.

Responding agencies and emergency services included the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, Nekoosa Fire Department, Wood County Rescue, Spirit Air, and Saratoga First Responders.
