Step back in time: Sept. 17-23 in Hub City history
Ten years ago
William Allen, who died Friday from a rare blood disorder, was honored Sept. 18 with the lowering of flags in the city for the full day by order of Mayor Mike Meyers. Known as “Mr. Marshfield,” Allen was the voice of every Dairyfest as announcer at the Mayor’s Breakfast and parade.
Twenty-five years ago
Dr. Joseph J. Mazza, Marshfield Clinic hematologist, was appointed director of medical education, effective as of Wednesday. He succeeded Dr. Richard D. Sautter, a cardiovascular surgeon, who was director for 17 years.
Fifty years ago
Held at the Wisconsin State Fair last month, the Marshfield Youth Band won a second place trophy in the Class A concert competition. Judy Lang and Larry Peterson, both of rural Marshfield, were among the participants in the band.
Seventy-five years ago
Manager of the Marshfield Fair Store E.A. Guensberg was named as chair of a local committee that will focus on helping recruit men for a “token crew” for the new battleship the Wisconsin. Named assistant chairman of the committee was L.H. Dressendorfer.
