STRATFORD — The Stratford football team is right where it wants to be.
The Tigers dominated Marathon 35-6 in a Marawood Conference game Friday night at rainy Tiger Stadium in Stratford, setting up a conference title game next week in Edgar in the final regular-season contest of the season.
Stratford is now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Marawood and will play at Edgar (8-0, 5-0 Marawood) on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. with the winner claiming the conference championship. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
Stratford running back Kade Ehrike scored all five of the Tigers’ touchdowns. He had a 12-yard TD run in the first quarter and added a 30-yard touchdown run on the second play of the second quarter. Ehrike turned a screen pass from Mark Handrick into a 17-yard touchdown later in the quarter, and he had a 4-yard TD run with just eight seconds to go in the half to put Stratford up 28-6 at halftime.
Ehrike finished off the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.
Stratford’s defense was stellar, forcing five turnovers and keeping Marathon’s high-powered offense at bay.
