MARSHFIELD — Work on the future home of the Marshfield Community Center is nearing completion, and a grand opening date is being planned.
“We are getting close to completion,” said Justin Casperson, Marshfield Parks & Recreation director. “In fact, our (Park & Recreation Department) offices are scheduled to move there at the end of November. Starting Nov. 27 our offices will be relocating there. We will be opening to the public on Dec. 4.
“(The senior center) will be moving over right after that, so the first week of December. Hopefully we get them settled in before their potluck, which is Dec. 5, … so we are getting close. We have a few change orders left with a lot of painting, flooring. Doors are going in this week.
Casperson said that the community center will have 10 rooms open to the public along with a lounge. He said most of the furniture left behind by the library will be used in the community center, but several additional items are required to fill the shared areas.
Through a combination of budget adjustment and appropriating of funds previously slated for tennis and racquetball administration, which will no longer be needed upon relocation of the city hall, the Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee provided the money to acquire the remaining furniture.
A grand opening celebration is being scheduled for the second week of December.
Wenzel Family Plaza
Crews are also making progress on the future home of the Wenzel Family Plaza.
“The entrance piers, the arboretum columns, the upper portions of these piers and columns are being finalized in anticipation of brick facing,” said Marshfield City Engineer Tom Turchi. “The seating wall and footings are now complete. The stage footings are complete.”
The walls for the stage were also finished last week, and the parking area adjacent to the alley has been completed.
Turchi said that curb and gutter will be replaced along Chestnut Avenue soon so that parking will be restored.
Work began on the plaza Sept. 8.
