MARSHFIELD — Marshfield cab service was temporarily halted when cab operators went on strike the morning of Nov. 20.
Drivers lined the sidewalk in front of the Marshfield Public Transit building at 551 S. Central Ave., Marshfield carrying signs stating their requests for better wages.
Running Inc., Viroqua operates as Marshfield Public Transit in the city of Marshfield, providing public transportation to the general public as a shared-ride service
The city of Marshfield owns about a dozen taxi vehicles and leases them to Running Inc. State and federal funding help provide the service in the city, which goes out for bid every five years.
Justin Running of Running Inc. said that wage increase opportunities had been an ongoing issue prior to the strike.
“Wage increase opportunities weren’t what we wanted them to be,” he said.
Running was notified at 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 20 that the drivers had gone on strike.
“I came up and had a meeting with everybody and by 10 a.m. they were back on the road,” Running added. “They were not going to work until they were heard.
“We came to an agreement and we are going to continue working with them. They are a fantastic group of individuals.”
