Henry (Hank) Zaleski, 87, of Port Chester, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at King Veterans Home in Wisconsin. Hank was the son of the late John and Mary Zaleski. Hank is survived by his wife Estelle Zaleski (Ekstrom). His three children John (Joann) Zaleski of Stamford, CT, Stephen Zaleski, and Brian (Christina) Zaleski of Stratford, WI. He will be missed by his five adoring grandchildren who filled his life with happiness and love. Andrea, John Jr, Stephen Jr, Henry, and Lucy who he treasured and loved dearly. Hank was preceded in death by his brothers, John Zaleski of Utica, NY and Stanley Zaleski of Oakland, California.
Henry and Estelle were high school sweethearts and married 64 years. Hank took great pride serving his country as a United States Marine from 1951-1954 and participating in action against enemy forces in Korea from 1951-1952. He was a true American hero and proud veteran.
Hank worked for many years as a printer and book bindsman and volunteer at the Church of the Sacred Heart Youth Organization. He ultimately retired in 1998 and moved to Wisconsin. Hank will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kind heart, his sweet tooth and his love of sports. He was an accomplished athlete throughout high school. He passed on his love of sports to his children and grandchildren and was often seen throwing a ball or catching pitches to his boys. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, trips to the casino, and enjoying an occasional gin & tonic. He loved cheering for his grandkids at their sporting events and giving them magic carpet rides throughout the house. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
Services will be private. Our family would like to especially thank the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King for the care, compassion and dignity displayed for Henry.
