Columbus Catholic knocks off Greenwood
Addison Baierl had a career-high 17 points and Morgan Albrecht added 15 points to lead Columbus Catholic to a 73-56 victory over Greenwood on Dec. 19 at Greenwood High School.
The Dons started strong, moving out to a 41-25 lead by halftime, and held on from there.
Columbus Catholic (8-2, 5-1 Cloverbelt East) made 17 of 28 free throws in the win, while Greenwood was just 1 of 4 at the line.
Marshfield wins first Valley game
Marshfield snapped a three-game losing streak with a 59-37 victory over Merrill on Dec. 19 at Merrill High School.
Four Tigers scored in double figures as they shot 55 percent (26-for-47) from the field in the victory.
Jenna Jakobi scored 20 points on 10 of 13 shooting, Katie Osinski added 15 points, Meg Bryan had 11 points, and Hannah Meverden had 10 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for Marshfield (2-4, 1-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference prior to a game Dec. 21 against Eau Claire North).
Marshfield led 27-21 at halftime and blew the game open by doubling up the Bluejays 32-16.
Unbeaten Neillsville thumps Spencer
Neillsville remained undefeated with a resounding 76-16 victory over Spencer in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Dec. 19 at Spencer High School.
Neillsville is now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Spencer drops to 1-7 and 1-6 in conference play.
Neillsville led 45-14 at halftime and held the Rockets to just two points in the second half.
Lexi Baehr had 13 of Spencer’s 16 points, making 7 of 8 free throws and a pair of 3-pointers.
Makayla Knuth led Neillsville with 21 points.
Stratford grinds past Assumption
Stratford won its second-straight game and pulled even to 3-3 in the Marawood Conference South Division with a 37-27 victory over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Dec. 19 at Stratford High School.
Stratford (3-5 overall) led 22-10 at halftime and held on from there.
Chelsey Gliniecki had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Brenna Ackley also had 11 points to lead Stratford.
