Auburndale wins eighth straight
Auburndale scored the game’s first seven points and never trailed, cruising to a 55-41 win over Prentice in a Marawood Conference crossover game Feb. 9 at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches won their eighth game in a row to improve to 16-3 overall and 12-2 in the Marawood Conference South Division.
Colton Wright, in his second game back following an injury, scored a team-high 13 points for the Apaches in a balanced scoring attack.
Cameron Ertl made all six of his free throw attempts to finish with 11 points, Cale Jacoby added 11 points and six rebounds and Cooper Weinfurter chipped in 10 points for the Apaches.
Columbus remains unbeaten in Cloverbelt East
Marshfield Columbus Catholic senior guard Nick Malovrh surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career by scoring 22 points in the Dons’ 80-46 victory over Gilman on Feb. 8 at Columbus Catholic High School.
Malovrh becomes the seventh player in program history to score more than 1,000 points in a career, joining Bob Koch, Jason Linzmeier, Shawn Lee, Jared Fleischmann, Tyler Fuerlinger, and Hunter Schultz.
Columbus raced out to a 41-17 lead by halftime and outscored the Pirates by 10 points in the second half.
The Dons (16-2, 13-0 Cloverbelt East) won at Loyal 65-40 on Feb. 10, and also downed Owen-Withee on the road 64-45 on Feb. 6. Malovrh had 18 points in the win over the Blackhawks.
Marshfield wins in OT
Marshfield outscored Wausau East by seven points in overtime to pull out a 63-56 victory in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Feb. 9 at Wausau East High School.
Marshfield led 28-21 at halftime before East rallied in the second half to tie the game at 54-54 and send it to overtime.
The Tigers outscored East 9-2 in the extra four-minute period to grab the victory.
Seth Anderson scored 30 points and Reed Miller added 13 points for Marshfield (9-10, 7-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference).
Marshfield lost at Mosinee 73-71 on Feb. 6. Anderson had 18 points and Anthony Posteluk went 5-for-6 from 3-point range and scored 17 points for the Tigers.
Stratford cruises at home
Stratford held Chequamegon to 12 points in the first half as it built a 19-point lead and rolled to a 62-31 victory in a Marawood Conference crossover game Feb. 9 at Stratford High School.
The Tigers raced out to a 31-12 lead and outscored Chequamegon by 12 in the second half to maintain their big lead and cruise to their sixth-straight victory.
Benjamin Barten scored 22 points, making 11 of 13 shots from the field, to lead the Tigers (16-3, 11-3 Marawood South), which had 11 different players score in the victory.
Stratford beat Spencer in a nonconference game 77-50 on Feb. 5, as Barten scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Spencer splits two conference games
Loyal held Spencer to 25 percent shooting on its way to a 46-29 victory in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Feb. 8 at Spencer High School.
Jack Bezlyk and Nate Karau each scored 10 points for Spencer, which falls to 8-10 overall and 7-7 in the Cloverbelt East.
The Rockets won at Greenwood on Feb. 6, 57-48, behind 20 points from Bezlyk.
