OLP students are moving mountains
By Kris Leonhardt
MARSHFIELD – Students at Our Lady of Peace elementary school have been building a “Mountain of Shoes of Friendship” for the Columbus Catholic mission team to deliver to the Casa Hogar Juan Pablo orphanage in Lurin, Peru this August.
The mountain consists of 405 pair of gently used shoes donated by the students, extended family and friends, and community members; but, OLP families didn’t stop there.
“Children’s parents said, ‘We want to do more than used shoes,’” said Deb Kennedy, K-12 Spanish teacher and Mission Team leader.
The school then began collecting toys, medications, and other items of need for the orphanage.
The Mission Team will fill 22 donated suitcases with the items to transport to Casa Hogar when the 20 members of the Mission Team visit at the beginning of August.
