Work begins on Middle School Literacy Garden
By Kris Leonhardt
MARSHFIELD – Memorial Day weekend marked the start of the Marshfield Middle School Literacy Garden project.
Planning on the garden began in 2016. The project is collaboration between Middle School Principal Mike Nicksic and former staff member Carol Berg-Kappel, with assistance from a 2018 Leadership Marshfield project group.
The Literacy Garden is an outdoor sanctuary for teachers to host classes and students to earn the privilege during study hall to read, reflect, and relax. It is also one way to promote literacy at the Middle School by providing students a place to read in a relaxing atmosphere. It will become a comfortable place for students to gather before and after school.
No tax dollars are being used to fund any portion of the Literacy Garden project, with much of the labor donated by Marshfield School District staff members.
The project is set to be completed by the start of the 2018-19 school year.
To make a donation to the project, contact Mike Nicksic at Marshfield Middle School.
