MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tiger girls soccer team enjoyed great success this season, despite a record below .500, and a tough loss in the Division 2 sectional semifinals June 7 in Pulaski. The Tigers lost their sectional match to No. 1 Pulaski 2-1, with 10 saves in goal for Marshfield’s Mikayla Brueggen.
Pulaski scored two early goals and held on from there. Marshfield’s Courtney Meyer scored the Tigers’ only goal in the opening moments of the second half, thanks to an assist from Kate Schilling. Marshfield got eight shots on goal. Pulaski had 12. Brueggen’s 10 saves in goal for the Tigers doubled that of Pulaski’s Malorie Schultz.
The Tigers ended their season with an overall record of 5-9-4.
Pulaski, meanwhile, lost in the sectional final round to River Falls 2-0 on June 9, in a match played at Griese Park in Marshfield. The other Division 2 state qualifiers are Brookfield Central, Oregon, and New Berlin Eisenhower. The state tournament will be held June 14-16 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
