Marshfield man charged for fifth OWI

MARSHFIELD – A Marshfield man found guilty of his fifth OWI will spend one year in jail, five years on probation, and pay a $3,200 fine following his sentencing on July 6.
David Stephens was arrested on suspicion of the crime Oct. 6 after police received a call that he was driving erratically in Marathon County. Police say he nearly struck a vehicle head-on and went into the ditch before they caught up to him.
The 41-year-old Marshfield resident pleaded guilty to OWI in June. His prior convictions all came between 1997 and 2013. He will have his driving privileges suspended for three years.
Since Stephens was arrested before a new state law took effect, which permanently revokes the license of anyone convicted of more than four OWIs, he will not be subject to the law.
