Cynthia R. Specht, 95, Marshfield, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2018 at Aster Assisted Living of Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 14 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Cynthia was born on August 17, 1922 in Marshfield, to John and Lena (Kestell) Diem. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and was a 1941 graduate of Marshfield High School. In addition to caring for her family and being a homemaker, she had been employed at Figi’s for a number of years until retirement in 1983.
She was united in marriage to Joseph “Ken” Specht on March 2, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. He died on June 1, 2013.
God was very important to Cynthia, and she was a strong woman of faith and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She volunteered at many church activities in her younger years and continued to say the rosary every day to the end. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family, especially children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed their late night fires for s’mores at their summer cottage.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Jeanne) Specht of Apple Valley, MN, Donald (Priscilla) Specht of Bloomington, MN, Debra (Col. Richard) Marsh of San Antonio, TX, Carol (Tom) Steinmetz of Marshfield, and Karen (Jeff) Ottelien of Cottage Grove. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters and 1 brother, Valeria Vandenberg, Germaine Haley, Eugene Diem and Audrey Murray.
The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Columbus Catholic High School or Heartland Hospice Care.
