Carolyn Jo (Finnegan) Sokolowski
Carolyn Jo (Finnegan) Sokolowski passed away on August 17, 2018.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 20, at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield, with a brief prayer service at 7 p.m.
A lifelong educator, music lover and avid reader, Carolyn Jo brought joy to many lives. For two decades, she taught General Education classes at Mid-State Technical College. For 48 years, she played trombone in a variety of Marshfield music groups including the UW-Marshfield/Wood County symphony, campus band and the Marshfield Civic band. In particular, she loved the resources and staff at Marshfield Public Library.
Carolyn Jo will be remembered as a devoted mother and wife. She spent many summers with her family playing in the pit orchestra for UW musical theatre productions while her family performed on stage. She possessed an amazing intellect and sharp wit, and she was proud of her Irish heritage.
Carolyn Jo was born, raised and married in Sioux City, Iowa, earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Briar Cliff University and her master’s degree in education from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, where she also taught.
She is survived by her children Megan of Plover, Ryan (Ta) of Seattle and Colin (Kelly) of St. Paul; and her grandchildren Shanley, Finnegan, Maeve, Prisana and Jett. She is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Neil Sokolowski.
In lieu of flowers, the family will donate memorials to Marshfield Public Library and Marshfield Civic Band.
