MARSHFIELD – A 33-year-old man is headed to jail after causing a disturbance at a home in Marshfield.
On Nov. 15, at 12:42 p.m., Marshfield police responded to a 911 call from a residence on South Vine Avenue in the city of Marshfield.
The man, who officers say was intoxicated, stated that someone had stolen a gun from him.
Upon arrival, officers heard arguing inside the apartment, and when the door opened it was learned that a 9mm handgun had been taken away from a distraught individual. The man had barricaded himself in a back bedroom of the residence, with access to other ammunition.
The 9mm handgun was confiscated and the apartment was evacuated, along with neighboring apartments and a nearby retirement home.
After 30 minutes of negotiations by Marshfield Special Response Team Crisis Negotiators and Marshfield officers, Kurtis J. Wegner, 33, surrendered to law enforcement.
Wegner was taken into custody and is awaiting medical clearance prior to being transported to Wood County Jail.
Charges for felon in possession of a firearm and going armed while intoxicated are being requested through the Wood County District Attorney. Wegner was convicted of possession of a short-barreled shotgun in 2010.
