Marshfield girls begin Taylor Varsho era

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers’ girls’ basketball team ushered in the Taylor Varsho era on Nov. 15, with a non-conference game at Hortonville to open the 2018-18 season. The Tigers lost 59-47, despite a voracious comeback effort in the second half.
The Tigers trailed by 16 early in the second half, before cutting the lead to five, but could get no closer and 22 Marshfield turnovers didn’t help.
The Tigers were led by Jenna Jakobi with 16 points. Kaydee Johnson added 11.
Varsho is replacing longtime head coach Heidi Michaelis, who stepped down earlier this year, after 17 seasons at the helm. Varsho is one of the many players Michaelis coached during her tenure.
Upcoming games for Marshfield include non-conference contests at Medford Nov. 29 and at Eau Claire North Dec. 4, followed by the conference opener against Stevens Point Dec. 7 in Marshfield. The Tigers will also host Wisconsin Rapids Dec. 11 and Merrill Dec. 14, before playing at D.C. Everest Dec. 18.
