Altrusa to host eighth annual Holiday Home Tour
By Kris Leonhardt
MARSHFIELD – The Altrusa Club of Marshfield will host their eighth annual Holiday Home Tour on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in the Marshfield area.
Darlene Krake, of the Altrusa Club, said that the holiday tour is their signature project – one that has developed into a tradition for some attending.
“It’s our major fundraiser for the year and gives people an opportunity to see other people’s homes, to bring their parents, friends, and relatives, and everybody else along,” said Krake. “Some of them have done this for so many years and now it’s their eighth time. Every year it keeps building more and more of a tradition.”
Homes on this year’s tour include: Travis & Melissa Cooper, 1024 Colonial St., Marshfield; Paul & Mary Tishim, 1008 W. Fourth St., Marshfield; Rob & Maci Altmann, M241 Coachlight, Marshfield; and Pat & Kristen Niehaus, S625 Tanner Dr., Marshfield.
The tour affords the community an opportunity to step inside some of Marshfield’s most fascinating homes, but Altrusa member Laura Drendel said that visitors get different things from those visits.
“We have heard that people get ideas for decorating,” explained Drendel. “Some people just like going to see the architecture of the home. We have been fortunate to have some very large, old homes, some homes that are signature homes in the community. Sometimes we have folks that are not as interested in necessarily seeing the decorations, as ‘I want to get in that house and see what that house looks like inside.’ But, for most people it is the decorations, and we just been so fortunate that the homeowners that have opened up their homes always have something unique.”
The funds from the tour are used to promote literacy, a cause which Altrusa heavily supports. Half of the proceeds from the tour will go to the Everett Roehl Public Library to address a current need in the facility. The club also provides a scholarship for a non-traditional student every year and provides books in area schools.
Times for the tour are Nov. 30, 4-8 p.m., and Dec. 1, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tickets for the tour are available at the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library and the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
