Continuing Ed to celebrate Scotland
For the Rapids City Times
MARSHFIELD – UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield Continuing Education will celebrate Scotland as they host “A Robert Burns Supper: Scotland’s Greatest Celebration” on Jan. 25.
Burns Suppers are held the world over to celebrate the life and works of Scotland’s most beloved poet, Robert Burns, who died in 1796. The suppers are held on, or close to, his birthday, Jan. 25, and have been a part of Scottish culture since 1801. The basic format for the evening has remained unchanged since that time and begins when the host invites the company to receive the haggis. Follow the time-honored form, which includes the eating of a traditional Scottish meal, the sipping of a wee dram of Scotch whisky, and a speech and toast to the immortal memory of Robert Burns.
Host, Keith Montgomery grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, and has hosted Burns Suppers in Wausau for several years. He graduated from the University of Glasgow and has worked at the university as professor of geography-geology and in various administrative roles for many years.
