MARSHFIELD – If there’s one thing the Marshfield Tigers boys basketball team learned this past season, it was how to share. Along with earning a share of the Wisconsin Valley Conference title with Merrill this season, the Tigers are sharing two more accolades with the Bluejays.
Marshfield Head Coach Scott Scheuer has been named Co-Head Coach of the Year in the Valley, sharing that honor with Merrill head man Jake Schalow, whose father Mike graduated from Marshfield High School. Also sharing a post-season award with the Bluejays is Marshfield senior guard Brant Bohman, who was named WVC Co-Player of the Year along with Quinn Steckbauer of Merrill. Bohman was also a unanimous first-team selection for the all-conference team in the Valley. Bohman led the Tigers in scoring with 15.9 points per game.
Also receiving all-conference honors was Marshfield senior Preston Wagner, a choice for a spot on the second-team all-conference squad. Senior Tommy Olson and junior Isaac Meverden were honorable mention selections.
In the Marawood Conference, two members of the Stratford Tigers were unanimous first-team choices. Ben Barten and Vaughn Breit, both juniors, led the Tigers to an unbeaten record in the South Division of the Marawood Conference. Barten scored 15.4 points per game this season for Stratford, which ended its season in the sectional semifinal round of the Division 3 playoffs, losing to Wisconsin Dells on March 7.
Breit, meanwhile, averaged 13.2 points per contest. Junior Chandler Schmidt was chosen as a member of the all-conference second team, while teammates Lance Heidmann and Teddy Redman were honorable mention selections. Their Head Coach, Curt Schmidt, was selected as the Coach of the Year in the Marawood Conference South Division.
The Auburndale Apaches placed two members on the all-conference first team – senior Colton Wright and junior Cooper Weinfurter. Wright led the Apaches in scoring with 15.4 points per game. Weinfurter was right behind him with a season average of 14.8. The Apaches also had two honorable mention selections. They were senior Carter Wilcott and sophomore Hunter Wright. Auburndale also made it to the sectional semifinal round of the postseason, before losing to Marathon March 7.
On the girls’ side, Jenna Jakobi of Marshfield was a unanimous choice for first-team all-conference in the WVC. Jakobi was the leading scorer for Marshfield, averaging just over 16 points a game. She was also the leading scorer in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, on a field goal percentage basis (58.9).
Earning Honorable Mention status from Marshfield were Maddie Michaelis, Kaydee Johnson, and Paige Preston.
The Stratford Tigers landed one player on the first-team all-conference team in the Marawood South. Senior Macie Schillinger represented Stratford on the first team, while her teammate Breanna Ackley was a selection for the second-team all-conference squad. Fellow Tigers Blaire Lindner and Callie Lehman were both honorable mentions.
The Auburndale Apaches had three all-conference selections. Junior Natalie Aue was named second-team all-conference, while teammates Taylor Stanton and Mackenzie Raab were honorable mentions.
