Cordova/Fay move on to state tennis competition

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Tigers No. 1 Doubles team of Jared Cordova/Will Fay will move on to state competition after Division 1 sectional competition May 22 in Wisconsin Rapids.
Cordova/Will defeated Chippewa Falls’ Mitch Vanyo/Nick Mason, 6-0, 6-3, in first round competition and moved on to semi-finals, where they defeated Menomonie’s Victor Kaufmann/Jackson Trunkel, 6-1, 6-2. In finals, the team lost to Eau Claire Memorial’s Max Loen/Donylo Ripeckyj, 6-0, 6-1.
In No. 2 Doubles competition Lucas Paulman/Sam Roherty lost to Memorial’s Will Hayes/Grant Wolfe, 6-0, 6-3, and Hudson’s Brett Covey/Mitchell Drost, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6.
In No. 3 Singles, Ryan Paulman lost to Hudson’s Kade Nickerson in semi-finals, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. He then defeated Onalaska’s Jay Yoo, 6-2, 6-1, in the third place match.
The top four in No. 1 singles/doubles and the winner in No. 2 singles/doubles move on. Cordova/Fay will compete in the WIAA state tennis tournament May 30-June 1 in Madison.
