Where are they now: Local athletes making mark on college level

A number of former local high school athletes have moved on to the next level and are playing sports collegiately across the country. Periodically, Hub City Times will publish a college sports roundup, updating readers of those athletes’ collegiate exploits.
Oestreich starting for UW-Platteville men’s basketball
Matt Oestreich, a 2014 graduate of Marshfield High School, is a sophomore guard on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s basketball team.
Oestreich, who also started last year as a freshman, is third on the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists, averaging 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game for the Pioneers, who are 5-3.
Recently, Oestreich scored 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting in a 72-57 victory at home over Coe College on Nov. 29.
Platteville plays at Hope College (Mich.) on Saturday.
Varsho wrapping up career at Sioux Falls
Taylor Varsho, a 2012 Marshfield High School graduate, is a senior on the University of Sioux Falls women’s basketball team in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Varsho, the all-time leading scorer in Marshfield girls basketball history, led Sioux Falls in scoring in five of its first six games, including season-highs of 24 points in wins over Southwest Minnesota on Nov. 24 and Florida Tech on Nov. 27.
Varsho leads the Cougars in scoring at 17.3 points per game. She has a team-high 28 3-pointers and 22 steals. She is also third on the team in assists with 22 and fifth in rebounding with 30 as USF is 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Sioux Falls hosts Minot State (N.D.) and University of Mary (N.D.) on Friday and Saturday in a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games.
Fleischmann stuffs stat sheet for Viterbo
Jared Fleischmann, a sophomore on the Viterbo University men’s basketball team and a 2014 Columbus Catholic High School graduate, has started all nine games for the V-Hawks this season.
Fleischmann is averaging 9.6 points, 3.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game for Viterbo, an NAIA school in La Crosse.
He played a team-high 42 minutes on Dec. 5 in a 77-76 win over Luther College (Iowa), scoring 19 points, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out eight assists, and garnering five steals in the victory.
Viterbo (4-6) plays at Waldorf College (Iowa) on Saturday.
