A community tradition moves to a new venue
Marshfield Art Fair to be held at fairgrounds
For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — For the past 53 years, thousands have gathered with friends and family to view and purchase the work of local and regional artists at Marshfield Art Fair. The Mother’s Day tradition takes place this year 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 14 at the event’s new home: the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.
Visitors are welcome, free of charge, to view an assortment of original art and crafts available for purchase, enjoy live entertainment, and try hands-on-art activities.
More than 70 artists and crafters from Wisconsin and surrounding states have been selected to display and sell their pieces in the Expo Building and Junior Fair Building. Many past favorites will be in attendance once again this year, including last year’s Best of Show Award winner Rebecca Korth. Artist Jeanne Chase will be demonstrating, as well as hosting, a make-and-take project at her booth in the Expo Building.
A complete listing of all participants in this year’s event, as well as images of their work, can be found at newvisionsgallery.org.
Storytellers Wildflower and Jean-Andrew along with musician David Drake from Organic Arts Ltd. will entertain throughout the day. Aber Suzuki Center and the Main Street Academy of Dance are scheduled to appear on stage in the entertainment tent over the lunch hour.
A free children’s hands-on art area featuring kite making will be available throughout the day. Community groups, including the Aber Suzuki Center, Main Street Conservatory of Dance, and Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth, will be represented at the event as well.
Twelve food and beverage vendors will be attending the event this year to tempt visitors with their culinary arts. Both the Marshfield Noon Rotary Club and Marshfield Curling Club will be raising funds for their organizations through food and beverage sales.
The chair for the 2017 event is Elizabeth Vickers. The event is organized and sponsored by New Visions Gallery. Admission, entertainment, and activities are all free thanks to community support, including a grant from the Marshfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. Support for the event has also been received from Wisconsin Public Radio and the many volunteers who make this event possible.
