Wood County Master Gardeners hosting fall seminar

MARSHFIELD — On Oct. 28 the Wood County Masters Gardeners will host its annual Fall Garden Seminar at UW-Marshfield/Wood County, 2000 W. Fifth St. in Marshfield. Registration starts at 8 a.m., and the program begins at 8:30 a.m. in Room 131.
Seminar speakers will be Ben Futa and Rob Zimmer.
Futa is the executive director of the Allen Centennial Garden at UW-Madison. His topic is “Building a Lawn: Adding a New Dimension to Your Lawn.” This practical, step-by-step presentation will illustrate how to plant an arrangement of bulbs in a lawn.
Zimmer is an award-winning nature and garden writer and author. He will present “The Important Role of Conifers in the Home Landscape.” The topic will touch on native vs. hybrids, dwarf conifers for smaller yards, and cultural conditions needed such as amount of light, types of soils, and winter protection required.
Early registration is recommended. The public is invited, and limited seating is available. The registration deadline is Oct. 23. Call the UW-Extension office at 715-421-8440 to register. The fee of $10 is payable at the program check-in on Oct. 28. Refreshments will be available during registration and a break.
