Letter to the Editor: Reader questions shelter closing
Dear editor,
I recently heard that the Transitional Family Shelter here in Marshfield was closing. After two weeks of trying to get answers to why and getting nowhere, I decided to write out my concerns.
The Family Shelter has been open for four years now and it has almost always been full. It has been doing a great service for our community, for those people in need. There‘s currently 13 families – 43 total people, including 22 children – living there who were told they had until Dec. 5 to find alternative housing.
I understand that it takes money and volunteers to keep it open; however, firing the manger, calling in the Shelter Board and letting them go, then telling the families and children that they have a month to find a different place to live is just wrong. That’s not the way nonprofit organizations are run. You need to work through the problems.
Hopefully this is only temporarily.
If you feel the way I do, I urge you to call the St Vincent de Paul store at 715-387-4425 and voice your concerns so that the Board members understand what they did is not right. It not right in the eyes of men and it’s not right in the eyes of God.
