MARSHFIELD – Downtown businesses looking to redo their rear entrances could get some help from Main Street Marshfield’s Welcome Back grant program.
The grants are designed to help create more inviting, accessible and visible spaces for downtown visitors, officials said in a news release.
This year’s program requires a 50/50 match, meaning if you are awarded $4,000, your total project cost must be at least $8,000, with $4,000 of that coming from the applicant.
Rear entries in downtown Marshfield are often the most convenient entrances to public parking lots and adjacent to the designated bike lanes on Chestnut and Maple Avenues, officials said. Investing in back entrances can help customers connect with downtown businesses in new ways.
Eligible projects include improvements such as enhanced lighting, new signage, landscaping or patio spaces and accessibility enhancements.
The application deadline is June 6, and businesses awarded the grants will be notified by June 13. All projects must be completed and reimbursement requests submitted by Nov. 1.
Business owners should discuss their project ideas with the city’s commercial building inspectorbefore submitting an application to increase the likelihood of approval.
They also must obtain all necessary permits and approvals before starting any work, and all required inspections must be completed and approved by the required officials. In the event of limited funding, the Committee reserves the right to prioritize certain work projects and to grant a partial amount of the funding requested.
