NEILSVILLE – Female veterans are invited to an outdoor retreat designed to help them heal and manage post-traumatic stress, or PTS.
The Highground Veterans Memorial Park’s Outdoor Adventures, set for June 20-25, is open to any female veteran of any age and service history.
Organizers say the retreat is designed for women who enjoy the physical demands of hiking, nights under the stars and other outdoor activities. Spending time in nature is one of the most effective and achievable ways to help heal and manage PTS, they say, and to reach goals of better mental health.
Participants will be hiking area trails, camping and participating in other outdoor activities such as kayaking. Female veterans will have the opportunity to learn or hone their outdoor skills as well as techniques for PTS and military sexual trauma management, boosting their confidence to continue the activities after the retreat. All the basic equipment necessary is included with registration.
While a registration fee is required to hold their spots, it will be refunded to the veterans when they arrive. The Highground will also supply food, lodging, supplies and other necessities.
To register and get a detailed itinerary for the retreat, email Theresa at museum@thehighground.org or call (715) 743-4224.
Funding for the retreat is provided, in part, by a Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs grant and through private donors.
The Highground is at W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville, WI 54456.
