Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Oct. 4

Posted

MARSHFIELD – The Alzheimer’s Association will host its Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 4 at Wenzel Family Plaza, 20 S. Chestnut Ave. Marshfield.

The event will open at 9 a.m., with the ceremony beginning at 10:10 a.m., followed by the Walk at 10:30 a.m.

The walk also features the inspiring Promise Garden Ceremony, where participants carry colorful flowers, each representing a personal connection to the disease.

“I’ve seen Alzheimer’s and dementia affect many of my friends’ and coworkers’ families. They’ve told me how challenging it can be to be a caregiver. I walk to help raise funds and awareness and to hopefully someday find a CURE. I celebrate the advancements already made and the victories right around the corner. I walk to support others I care about,” said Jenni Yetter, walk chair, along with Karen Ostreich.

“More than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, one of the nation’s leading causes of death. Over 11 million family members and friends provide unpaid care for those affected. In Wisconsin, more than 110,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s, and tens of thousands of caregivers are supporting them every day. In Wood County alone, over 2,154 residents age 65 and older are living with dementia,” an event release stated.

“Exciting progress in both treatments and early detection has brought new hope to millions of families. Breakthroughs in medical science, fueled by decades of research, advocacy, and community support, are helping people receive answers sooner and benefit from new ways to slow the progression of the disease. These advances strengthen our determination to keep moving forward toward a world without dementia.”
